guten morgen, jaja (: [ open ] « Thread Started on Jan 15, 2009, 10:23am »
JAY A large tom pushed his head out of the leader's den. It was just after dawn, so the border patrol should have left already. He had been up at the time, although he hadn't followed the sounds of his Clan awakening into the main clearing until now. He stretched his paws out in front of him and parted his jaws in a massive yawn before relaxing his muscles.
JAY "Guten Morgen, ja ja," he purred to no one in particular. Jaystar's green eyes shone brightly, reflecting the sun rising across from him. He loved this time of the day. It was oh-so hopeful, not to mention beautiful.
JAY The tom looked down finally and dug his claws into the dirt. Life was awfully peaceful lately, although that wasn't necessarily a bad thing. It just frequently left him wondering what to do next. Well, he could go and visit the kits. After all, he loved their tiny paws and thin whiskers... The leader smiled happy at the thought. If there was anything in the world he was willing to die for, it was the kits.

Minkpaw Hush-a-bye don't you cry, Go to sleep-y, little baby. When you wake you shall have All the pretty little horses.
Yawning as the dim light leaked into the apprentice den, Minkpaw stretched and wondered what his Clanmates had set for them, today. Only one way to find out...
The tabby got to his feet, giving another tiny yawn, and made his way out into camp. Scanning the area, he could see very little activity--those not on patrol were, for the mostpart, asleep. Disappointment made his ears droop.
But then his leader's silvery fur caught his eye, and Minkpaw made his way over. Jaystar had always been nice and approachable. "Hi!" the young tom squeaked, nodding his head in greeting. "Anything new?"

JAY Jaystar closed his eyes and let the sun gently stroke his face, warming it with its touch. He allowed a purr to rumble through his throat, contented. When a squeaked greeting sounded, he lowered his head and opened his eyes with a smile.
JAY "Tag, Minkpaw!" the leader meowed, his accent heavy. "Nein. The same old, same old for the most part. Und du?" The Maine Coon twitched his tail, pulling it through the grass behind him. He got on with the apprentices almost as well as he got on with the kits, mostly because they were still hardly what you could call grown up. Not yet, anyway.
JAY Of course, there were those trouble-makers, but if he remembered right, Minkpaw wasn't one of them. He smiled in a friendly manner to the young tom.

Minkpaw grinned. The leader's odd way of speaking had confused him, at first, but he had picked up a bit here and there--enough to have casual conversation, anyway.
"Ich bin gut," he replied, hoping his pronunciation and word choice was correct. It had been a while. "But I'm kinda bored. Haven't really had anything to do lately."
He settled down next to his leader, head tilting as he watched the large tom. Even for an adult, he was big and muscular. It was something for the apprentice to aspire to--his own muscles were weak and hardly mentionable.
But this wasn't the time to dwell on that. It was a beautiful morning, and for now, that should be enough.

((Yes, I am randomly popping into this with TWO of my charries! MWAHHA! *hope you don't mind.*))
He felt his muscles release and contract easily with the smooth gait of his run. He felt like a comet across the sky, relishing the feel of the air parting before him as he sped along. It felt almost like slicing through the water with steady graceful strokes, yet much less wet.
His pelt was like a brilliant streak across the ground as he went, like a tiny fire in the brush around him. Bloodpaw's eyes were focused on the obstacles in front of him, a determination in them that would have been humorous if he had not looked so intense about it. There was, however, if one had the chance to gaze at his face for a small amount of time, a hint of his own amusement and happiness.
This was a race, after all.
Scareye was, hopefully, somewhere behind him, eating his dust. They'd already brought back the fresh-kill they'd caught so early in the morning and now they were returning to actually eat something. He'd been the one to initialize the race, but that didn't make him any less worried that the warrior would pass him up. He absolutely /hated/ it when she won.
Then there was the entrance to the camp in front of him, and his focus narrowed to getting in there before the black and white she-cat. His ears flattened as much as they could against his head and his stride lengthened...
And one of his paws caught on...something on the ground. Probably a weed or some other idiotic thing.
Instead of the graceful and impressive entrance into the camp, he was, literally, thrown head over tail through the entrance. A small yowl of surprise escaped his lips as he bounced across the ground. Eventually the rolling slowed to a stop and he let himself stay laying on his side for a moment as his eyes blinked.
He was pretty sure the world was /not/ supposed to be spinning and tilting all around him like that.
And he /hurt/. By StarClan did he hurt! After a few moments, he pushed himself up into a wobbly standing position and shook his head, tail flicking back and forth in irritation. After he could see again, he glanced around to see if anyone had witnessed his utter embarrassment.
To his horror, plenty had. Including the leader, Jaystar, and one of his fellow apprentices.
Then there was a nudge on his shoulder as Scareye padded alongside him, her greyish eyes grinning at him, "Enjoy your trip?"
---
She felt really bad for him, but that was what he got for trying to show off. She couldn't hold back the small smile of utter amusement from her lips, so she turned away from his dejected face to see who had all seen his antics.
Her ears shot forward in delight as she saw Jaystar and Minkpaw, "Oh, look! I think I'll go ask how they judged your dive!"
She trotted toward them and Bloodpaw let out a strangled squeak of alarm from behind her. She heard his pawsteps running after her, but she reached the two toms before he could catch up.
"Good morning, Jaystar. Minkpaw," she said amiably, dipping her head to them each in turn, "I was just wondering if Palewater has woken yet. I really must tell her that she needs to work on coordination with her apprentice here. I am very glad that my own apprentice isn't quite so clumsy." She winked at Minkpaw as she said this, hoping it would help the normally shy tom.
She glanced back to find that Bloodpaw was sitting slouched in embarrassment behind her, as if to hide from the other two cats. She flashed a bright smile at him before turning back to the other two expectantly.

Minkpaw flushed at the offhand praise, paws shuffling with embarrassment. It was nice to be complimented, of course, but...
He couldn't help but think that Scareye spent much more time with Bloodpaw than him.
It wasn't a surprise, really. As well as being well-trained and always ready to learn, Minkpaw's fellow tom apprentice's coat was a gorgeous, fiery ginger and crisp white.
The tabby's small sigh was near-inaudible, so much so that he barely noticed it himself. As he was brought back out of his mind, Minkpaw blinked in something akin to surprise. "We should all train together something," he suggested absently.

JAY Jaystar looked up as Bloodpaw came rolling into camp. He raised an eyebrow with amusement, watching as Minkpaw's mentor, Scareye, followed.
JAY "Nein, I have not seen Frau Palewater yet today. Quite possibly, though, she could have slipped out while I was preoccupied with other things," he meowed, giving a twitch of his fluffy gray tail. He looked down at Minkpaw, having thought he heard something, although he dismissed as simply a trick of his mind.
JAY "Prima! It would definitely help both you and Bloodpaw along, especially in the area of battle-training." He smiled encouragingly at Minkpaw and looked back to Scareye. "What do you say, up for a training session?" He purred happily. He did not have an apprentice of his own at the moment, although he definitely enjoyed jumping in here or there to give assistance of his own in the mentoring of the young ones. After all, how much of a leader would he be if he failed to take interest in such an important thing?

Bloodpaw shuffled his feet a bit, still feeling the burn of embarrassment from under his pelt. He was relieved that Palewater hadn't been seen yet, though. Once she heard about his little trip, she and Scareye would never get enough of teasing him.
At Minkpaw's suggestion, Bloodpaw's ears twitched forward. He liked the other apprentice, but the tom was a little quiet and always seemed to be lingering somewhere nearby.
Scareye looked to him after a moment, "I certainly wouldn't mind. What about you, Bloodpaw? I could certainly go find Palewater and tell her about your little spill..."
"Oh, I'd love to! Sounds great to me," he said, casting a small ear twitch of displeasure to Scareye for trying to threaten him. He would have gone anyway, but her little reminder only served to make him a little more cooperative.
With that, Scareye turned back to the other two cats, nudged Minkpaw with her shoulder lightly and grinned at him, "Well then, we'd be happy to accept your invitation, Jaystar," she said, looking back to the leader now.

Shyly, the small tom glanced up at the other cats--they all seemed supportive of the idea for a training session, and it made his whiskers twitch happily. It wasn't that he particularly liked training, but cats around him and a plan for the day were grand things to have.
It may even be an opportunity for friends.
Outside the camp, a deep coppery tom frowned, ears angling at the sound of voices. Curious, the warrior ambled over to the group that had gathered there, nodding in greeting to his leader first before asking, "What's going on?"
Rustwood tilted his head, considering the others gathered there--Scareye and Bloodpaw--No surprises there...--and a jittery-looking Minkpaw. The warrior's eyes lingered on the already-skittish apprentice a moment longer than the other two. He could almost feel the other cat's nerves cracking.
Such an apprehensive little thing.
Casting this thought aside--he figured it may be cruel to stare at the meek tabby any longer--the warrior returned his attention to his leader, ears perked with semi-interest.

Scareye turned her head quickly to take in the copper tom that was approaching before she dipped her head in greeting. At his question, she smiled slightly, "Nothing really. We were simply planning on doing a joint lesson with Jaystar today."
Bloodpaw smiled at Rustwood, flicking his tail slightly, though he wasn't sure if he should be happy to see yet another cat, seeing as Scareye liked to share his mishaps with everyone she came across. Thankfully, she was staying quiet for now, though he wasn't sure how long it would last.
