After another moment, he shoved the images back again, attempting to regain some of his normalcy. Well, in thought at least. He'd done a fairly decent job of not convulsing or anything.
He glanced over at her now, a bit embarrassed to see that she had been watching him, but he managed a small smile, "So that is my story. And what of yours? How did you become a clan leader?"
He did not know if she would share any information with him. It was not something that she probably told to many. He was simply curious.

She flicked her ears and tilted her head, as if considering the question. "I...haven't thought about it. It just sort of...happened, I suppose."
Now, though, she was wondering herself. Why had Adamantstar chosen her after Arcticeye died? She had a questionable past, because of Dividedheart... Her torn ear twitched, as if remembering the pain her brother had caused. What would he think, if he ever discovered she was the leader now?
A flash of worry crossed through her eyes, but she told herself she was being silly and immediately relaxed.
Inkstar blinked to bring herself back to reality and stared at Brokenshadow. "I'm sorry...what are we talking about again...?"

He nodded as she spoke, not knowing if the silence after her words was an indicator of secrets or simply thought. Either way, he understood. As with him, he was sure there were things she would not wish to part with to an almost total stranger.
Brokenshadow smiled softly at her as she asked him what they were talking about, "Nothing much, I suppose. How long have you been leader to this clan?"
She seemed as if she loved the clan very much and that she were very comfortable with her role as its leader. It simply made him wonder if it was a natural comfort in the role or experience with it that made her so confident.
And she did seem very confident. She had a strong will, and it was something to be respected, he knew. If you could not respect a strong will and strong beliefs, where would that leave you but as a hypocritical follower?

Once more her thought process was derailed by his question--not that it should have been. It was a natural question, especially following his previous one (which she'd remembered in thoughtstream while thinking about this one). A puzzled frown appeared on her lips, and her ears tilted forward, as if alert. "How long..." she mused, counting the moons in her head.
"A little under...a full four seasons, I suppose," Inkstar admitted, voice laced with surprise.

His ear twitched in his own surprise. He smiled at her and nodded approvingly, though why he would think that he could give indications about being in a clan, let alone being a good leader of one, he was not sure.
"Impressive," he stated, "The only reason I ask is that you seem very well-used to the role. If I had been asked to guess, I would have thought you to be a leader for much longer than that."
He glanced away, toward where the camp had been indicated. It seemed so long ago now that they had arrived, though it had been barely an hour, if even close to that. And yet, he still had not seen their to-be home.
Glancing down at his paw again, he looked back to Inkstar, a small, crooked grin on his features as he purred amusedly, "What could your medicine cat be doing? Are her stores that disorganized?"
